At Southern Sheep Company, our flock is at the heart of everything we do. Each sheep has been intentionally chosen for its heritage, quality, temperament, and contribution to our fiber arts, breeding program, and farm-based products. With over two decades of hands-on experience, we are proud to offer healthy, well-cared-for animals from strong genetic lines.
-
East Friesian
We’ve been raising East Friesian dairy sheep for over twelve years. Known for their exceptional milk production, East Friesians are the backbone of our dairy operation. Their gentle nature and high yields make them ideal for both homestead dairies and diversified farm operations.
We’re currently stepping into artificial insemination (AI) to bring in fresh genetics and elevate our flock's performance. Alongside this, we’re pursuing DNA testing to determine breed percentages and gain deeper insight into milk production potential. These steps allow us to make informed breeding decisions while preserving the best traits of this remarkable breed.
-
Corriedale
Our Corriedale sheep have been part of the farm for over 25 years. Though they are not registered, our Corriedales are purebred and trace back to respected breeders including H.O. Koenig, Rupert, Craig Packer, Ben Bow, and Renata Philippi.
We value the dual-purpose qualities of the Corriedale—versatile sheep known for both soft, high-quality wool and delicious meat.
Our long-term commitment to this flock reflects our deep respect for the breed and its history.
-
Teeswater
We’re proud to raise Teeswater sheep, celebrated for their long, lustrous fleece that handspinners and fiber artists adore. Our current ram is 97.7% pure, bred to ewes that are approximately 88% Teeswater.
Though our ewes are not registered, their lines are carefully maintained and consistently produce stunning wool.
While natural-colored Teeswaters cannot be registered under current standards, we cherish their genetic diversity and unique fleece coloration.
We’re especially excited about the next generation of lambs sired by a Pitchfork Ranch ram, expected to be around 92.85% Teeswater.
-
Tunis
Tunis sheep are a newer and exciting addition to our flock. We currently care for:
Four registered ewes and Two registered rams
These elegant red-faced sheep bring their own set of unique traits, and we’re anticipating our first lamb crop in the coming spring. Tunis are known for their hardiness, calm temperament, and lovely fleece.
A Commitment to Quality and Purpose
At Southern Sheep Company, we’re dedicated to:
-
At Southern Sheep Company, our breeding practices are rooted in respect, care, and intention. Every match is thoughtfully planned to support the health, temperament, and longevity of both ewe and lamb. We prioritize humane treatment, safe birthing environments, and keeping our animals’ well-being front and center.
-
We believe in preserving and promoting strong, diverse genetics across all our breeds. Through careful selection, DNA testing, and responsible pairing, we work to ensure our flock maintains traits that support vitality, adaptability, and long-term sustainability—all while honoring each breed’s legacy.
-
We raise our sheep with a deep respect for the land and the natural rhythms of farm life. Our flock management includes pasture rotation, natural parasite control, and a commitment to chemical-free care. Our goal is always to support animal health, regenerate our soil, and leave the land better than we found it.
-
From pasture to product, every fleece we raise is done with purpose and quality in mind. We focus on breeds that produce exceptional wool and work hard to keep their coats clean, healthy, and stress-free. This leads to beautiful, usable fiber that’s ideal for needle felting, spinning, dyeing, and beyond.
