About Southern Sheep Company

Veteran Family-Owned Farm | Fiber Arts | Needle Felting | Sheep | Eastern North Carolina | Holistic Living

Southern Sheep Company is a small, veteran family-owned and operated farm located on the beautiful coast of Eastern North Carolina. We are tucked away in a little rural town known as Richlands.

Many moons ago, after an in-depth discussion with my spouse, he agreed I could own and raise sheep if I was able to come up with a means to earn and pay for them, their needs, and all the provisions.

Challenge accepted.

Thus began the early beginnings of what would become our lifelong endeavor and greatest passion.

A Love for Fiber and Needle Felting

I have had a huge love of all things related to fiber and fiber arts. I began spinning fiber over twenty years ago. It was during that time I was able to travel to the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. Surrounded by others who loved the art as much as I did, I became inspired to learn and hone my skills in needle felting.

My passion grew, and I spent countless hours focused on my creations. The following year, I entered one of my pieces—a beautiful bobcat I had created—into the Fine Art Competition. She took Best in Show out of 500 other entries!

My love for artwork has taken off since then. Over the years, I have been able to have my pieces shown, displayed, and awarded in various competitions, art galleries, venues, and even Vogue Knitting Live events.

Growing the Farm

Over the years, our love of fiber arts and our heart for the farm have continued to grow. In fact, everything has continued moving in a positive direction of growth. With time, hard work, studying, learning, and trial and error, Southern Sheep Company has truly gone from a single seed to a whole forest.

We have a beautiful array of farm animals here that are well-respected and cared-for members of our family. Our farm itself continues to expand, including a move to larger property. The products we carry on our farm have also continued to grow.

The hard work, continuing education, and deep-spirited love for the fiber arts, nature, holistic lifestyle, and farm life have all played a role in honoring our efforts.

We have grown to include:

  • Community outreach

  • Educational programs

  • Collaborations with local public schools, FFA, and 4H programs

  • Participation in the NC State Fair and many other events

  • Being part of local farmers markets and farm stores

  • Membership in several national sheep associations

Our Commitment to Sustainability

From the soil to the sky, we believe in respecting the planet we live on—and even more, enhancing it as we go, leaving it better than how we found it.

In our daily life, we consistently perform this in many ways:

  • Encouraging the growth of native plants and grasses suitable to our region and livestock

  • Educating ourselves on pasture rotation, cow microbiomes, parasite management, and soil improvement

  • Raising beneficial herbal plants used in our handmade products:

    • Dried teas

    • Tinctures

    • Balms

    • Bug sprays

    • Soap additives

    • Natural fiber dyes

Every item produced on our farm is done intentionally and purposefully. We pride ourselves on our ability to produce healthy, chemical-free, toxin-free, PFAS-free, and hypoallergenic products that are safe for the whole family.

Ethical Animal Care

Our animals’ quality of life, humane treatment, and health will always come first at Southern Sheep Company. All of the animals here serve a purpose and are given the opportunity to live their lives as naturally as possible.

We look forward to sharing our current and future farm products and unique artisan pieces with you. We are truly thankful to have you share in our journey.
