A Rare American Treasure
CVM (California Variegated Mutant) sheep are the colored version of the Romeldale, a breed developed in the U.S. for premium fleece quality. Both are classified as heritage breeds and listed on The Livestock Conservancy’s priority list.
We raise them for their:
Soft, crimpy fleece with next-to-skin comfort
Striking natural colors: grays, browns, and variegated shades
Excellent fleece structure and handspinning behavior
Our CVM/Romeldales are sheared once per year, with each fleece carefully skirted, graded, and evaluated for use in raw sales, felting kits, or roving.
Naturally Beautiful and Sustainable
CVM and Romeldale fleeces are highly sought after by fiber artists, especially those looking to work with natural colors. We do not dye these wools—they come off the sheep in a range of earthy tones that stay true from fleece to finished garment.
Every lamb is evaluated not just for structure, but also for:
Fleece color consistency
Crimp and handle
Ease of shearing and cleanliness
Join Our Community
Come meet our CVM/Romeldales during our annual shearing day, held every January or February. You'll see the full range of colors, meet other fiber lovers, and get first pick of freshly shorn fleece.
Breeding for Quality and Preservation
As one of the rarer heritage breeds, we take our role in preserving CVM/Romeldale genetics seriously. Our breeding program focuses on:
Fiber quality
Natural color variation
Strong structure and maternal traits
We typically offer a small number of CVM / Romeldale lambs each year, available to select farms or fiber artists. Serious inquiries are welcome year-round.
